There was a time when barbering was different.
Demand was growing faster than the number of skilled barbers. Shops had loyal teams, customers knew where to go, and talented barbers could build successful careers.
Then everything changed.
Social media exploded. Barbering became one of the most popular trades in the world. Thousands of people entered the industry, more shops opened than ever before, and more barbers started working independently from home or on their own.
Today, barbering is more freelance than it's ever been.
Yet barbers still earn in almost the same way they always have.
You either work in a shop, own a shop, or cut from home. Your income is still limited by your location, your roster, and your appointments.
At the same time, customers are left with another problem.
If you need a haircut today—or even tonight—there's no simple way to find an available, quality barber right now. Existing booking platforms are built for future appointments, not immediate availability.
It made me ask a simple question.
If drivers can go online whenever they want and earn immediately, why can't barbers?
Why can't skilled barbers make themselves available when they choose?
Why can't customers instantly see who's available nearby?
Why hasn't barbering caught up with the on-demand world?
That's why I created Shorter.
Shorter gives barbers the freedom to earn on their own terms while making it easier for customers to find quality barbers exactly when they need one.
I'm not trying to replace great barber shops.
I'm trying to create more opportunity for great barbers and more convenience for customers.
I believe barbering deserves the same flexibility, accessibility, and technology that has transformed so many other industries.
This is the future I wish existed when I was behind the chair.
So I decided to build it.
We're starting with barbers — but this is just the beginning.
